Cloud Vector

The new frontier of Cloud, Cyber and Machine Learning has opened new possibilities for Vibrint to help our customers achieve customized flexibility, adaptability, and scalabilty to the most remote locations of the world.

Challenge:

The customer was required by their governing security authority to provide regular updates on the operational status of all IT assets. In addition, they were under a formal mandate to begin migrating to the cloud and to adopt the enhanced security practices and resiliency that cloud environments provide.

To meet these obligations, the customer needed a tool that could not only satisfy compliance requirements but also empower non-technical system owners to gain meaningful insights through system assessments. After evaluating several off-the-shelf solutions, the customer concluded that a greenfield application - purpose-built from the ground up - would be the most effective approach.

Failure to comply with the organisation’s mandate would have placed the customer in breach of key security standards, leaving them exposed to potential cyberattacks and data breaches. Furthermore, the customer lacked the internal expertise to manage the cloud migration and required a solution that would simplify the transition without demanding extensive cloud engineering training for their existing teams.

Solution:

Our team addressed the challenge by developing a greenfield application designed specifically around the customer’s needs. The solution is multifaceted and scalable, evolving alongside the customer’s requirements to meet compliance standards and ensure both awareness and security within their environment.

The application’s core function is to strengthen security and compliance across IT infrastructure by supporting administrators in management, continuous assessment, and education. Traditionally, IT asset management has focused on financial oversight, often overlooking the security of the assets being tracked.

For a national law enforcement agency, maintaining a strong security focus is essential to protecting national interests. By leveraging AWS Lambda and Amazon Comprehend, we’ve provided a way to bring greater context and visibilityto their IT infrastructure - helping them keep pace with the rapidly changing security landscape.

Figure 1 CloudVector utilizes an AWS Lambda function to parse an enterprise's configured RSS Feeds for the most recent articles pertaining to your personal technology stack. Using AWS Comprehend, it can parse the articles with AI and create easy associations.

Lambda allows users to run code without provisioning or managing servers, making it a flexible and cost-effective tool for development. Combined with Comprehend, an advanced natural language processing (NLP) service that uses machine learning to extract insights from text, the customer can now automatically ingest and analyse top security news feeds. These feeds are regularly linked and displayed within the tool, keeping users up to date with the latest developments in IT security.

Because the system is built on Lambda, the customer can control how often their security news database is updated while keeping costs low. Lambdas are stateless and highly scalable, enabling them to handle as many news sources as needed - significantly enhancing the organisation’s security posture.

With Comprehend, there’s no longer a need to build complex extract-transform-load (ETL) processes for each source. Instead, the service distills each article to its most relevant features, ensuring key information reaches the right stakeholders quickly.

In an era of constant data breaches and cyber threats, knowledge is one of the most powerful security tools. By integrating Lambda and Comprehend, our customer gains rapid, automated access to critical information - delivering a scalable, efficient, and cost-effective system that keeps them ahead of emerging risks without the need for extensive manual analysis.

Result:

Since the introduction of the tool, the customer has successfully deployed it into their production environments and migrated all IT systems from their previous asset-tracking platform. As a result, they’ve seen a notable improvement in cloud knowledge and adoption across the organisation, with contextual, real-time technical insights now readily available at their fingertips.

By bringing all systems under centralised management and monitoring, the customer can now identify enhancements and vulnerabilities more effectively, allowing them to respond faster and with greater intelligence—without the administrative burden that previously slowed operations and increased exposure.

With Lambda and Comprehend at the core of their new solution, the customer is now better equipped to protect both their organisation and the nation through proactive, data-driven security awareness and response.
